Winter's Bone is not the typical book I would pick up and read. I generally read books that are non-fiction or more autobiographically geared. However, so far I have enjoyed the story. The aspect of the book that I find myself thinking about the most is how all these circumstances are affecting Ree.
I have had many close friends who unfortunately have been in similar circumstances such as these. The friends that I think of the most when reading this story happen to be girls as well and also around the same age. So when reading this book, given the author's amazing sense of description and my own relationships, I find myself feeling most of the emotions Ree is experiencing. So although I do not generally read this particular genre I feel as though I am not merely reading, but almost having a conversation with Ree as she is telling me her life. It all feels so real.
The part of Ree's life that sticks out most to me is her overwhelming sense of responsibility. Unfortunately too many youths all around the world are heaved into similar circumstances where they are forced to be the mother and father as well as trying to live their own lives. From the descriptions of the book it sort of feels like a numbing, silent, deep knifing sensation that never relents for Ree as she is forced to move from one trial to the next.
I have so far enjoyed the text and thoroughly relish how the author can so eloquently pull the reader into the impoverished culture that is depicted. Looking forward to finishing the text!
